   SGGroup used to be the oldest sewing machine manufacturer in China. The history of "Butterfly" trademark can be traced back to 1919. The company's predecessor was the state-owned Shanghai Industrial Sewing machine Factory established in 1965, In 1993, it was restructured into Shanghai Industrial Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. and successfully listed. In 1997, it was renamed to Shang Gong Co., Ltd.. In 2004, it merged with SMPIC and changed the name to Shang Gong Group Co., Ltd..

   In 2005, SGGroup dared to be the first to set foot on the journey of internationalization and successfully acquired Dürkopp Adler, which enjoys a high reputation in the global sewing equipment industry. Through vigorous integration, this old enterprise, which was founded in 1860, became rejuvenated.

   In 2013, SGGroup successfully acquired another century-old sewing shop PFAFF Industrial, and the leading innovative enterprise in the field of sewing automation application KSL, rapidly mastered the world's top sewing technology including sewing robots, and consolidated the leading position in the global industry technology.

   From 2015 to 2018, SGGroup invested and established Zhejiang SGSewing Technology Co., Ltd., mainly engaged in the production of standardized industrial sewing machines; Pfaff Industry (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd., which is the domestic intelligent manufacturing equipment assembly and key parts production base; SGRichpeace Intelligent Manufacture (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., which invests and controls CAD software development and intelligent manufacturing of special program control equipment such as industrial bed cutting, embroidery machine and mask machine. The company has formed the new "Made in Shanghai" mode of"R&D and Salesboth in Shanghai" and "manufacturing outside".  In 2020, SG Group established Shanggong Sewing Machinery  (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. in Taizhou, Zhejiang, and built an intelligent manufacturing factory with an annual output of 390,000 industrial sewing machines. In 2021, SG Group invested and set up Shanghai Butterfly Digital Technology Co., Ltd. in Lingang, Shanghai, providing a new manufacturing platform for fashion products based on Butterfly sharing factory.In 2023, SG Group officially completed the acquisition and closing procedure of SONOTRONIC, the German ultrasonic welding non-standard automation equipment invisible champion through its European subsidiary.
